Today’s GRE Practice is the first of many word lists that commonly appear on the GRE. These words may appear as answer options or even in the text of the questions. Knowing these words goes a long way in a solid prep for the GRE.
Each word below has four options for its meaning or synonym. Choose the correct option for each word
Answer: C
PUNCTILIOUS means marked by or concerned about precise accordance with the details of codes or conventions. Other synonyms are STIFF-NECKED, PROPER.
Answer: D
MITIGATE means to reduce the harshness or hostility. Other synonyms are ALLAY, SOOTHE and ASSUAGE. Don’t confuse with LITIGATE which means to legally contest something.
Answer: B
A RECONDITE thing is difficult or impossible to comprehend without specialized knowledge. Synonyms are ESOTERIC and ARCANE.
Answer: C
To GAINSAY is to contradict or oppose or declare something to be untrue. Other synonyms are REFUTE and REPUDIATE.
